Girl Lead Hub Network Hosts Two-Day #WhenGirlsWrite Wikimedia Writing Workshop

In 2008, a survey found that less than 13% of Wikipedia contributors worldwide were women. The free online encyclopedia that “anyone can edit” was outed as being mostly run by men. A follow up survey in 2011 found similar results: globally, 9% of contributors were women; in the U.S., it was 15%. There is need for more women to write and edit articles on Wikipedia, and this starts by building their confidence through training and writing competitions. On August 4, 2017, Girl Lead Hub Network organized a free two-day #WhenGirlsWrite Wikimedia Writing Workshop which aims to encourage more Nigerian girls to shape the narrative on girls issues through writing. The United Nations defines human trafficking (using the words trafficking in person) as follows:  “Trafficking in persons shall mean the recruitment, transfer, transportation, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud , of deception , of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person , for the purpose of exploitation, which includes, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar, servitude or the removal of organs…” On the 30th of June 2017, Jemila Abdul, a volunteer wit
